Food system transformation needed

The Agricultural Research Council and the Department of Agriculture are currently hosting their first ever joint annual conference. Minister Thoko Didiza says it comes at a time when our food systems are confronted by externalities ranging from climate change, global conflicts, food waste and new pests and diseases. Delivering her opening address at the start of the conference, Didiza said these realities threaten how we have been producing, storing and distributing our food. As a result, there is now consensus that we need to transform our food systems to deliver the human rights to food in an environmentally sustainable, cost effective and socially just manner.
