The Department of Basic Education announced on Friday that schools would be re-opened on the 15th of February. This is in response to the increasing number of COVID-19 infections and deaths in the country. It announced that pupils enrolled at public schools will now return to the classroom on 15 February and not 27 January as originally planned. Teachers' unions, parents and experts had raised concerns about children heading back to school while the country battled to contain the second wave of COVID-19 infections.
