Firefighters rescue mother and newborn baby off roof

A Belhar mother did the almost impossible by risking her own life to climb a roof in order to give birth to her baby this morning. Firefighters from Belhar Fire Station received a call at 4:38 am and found the mom on the roof of a house in Belhar Extension. Apparently, she had to cross the roof as it is the only way to get out of the yard of the residence. Staff clamped and cut the baby’s umbilical cord and monitored his vitals until the rescue vehicle arrived from Epping Fire Station. Firefighters also assisted the mom and baby from the roof. At 5.32am, the mom and baby were transported to the hospital. Our breakfast team spoke to Claud Sakanary, an officer at the Belhar fire station
