As many South Africans have been working from home and not going to school over the last three to five months, they're set to be in for a shock when their electricity bill arrives or when they purchase prepaid electricity. Eskom direct customers have been paying 8.76% more for their electricity since 1 April 2020, while municipal customers have been paying an additional 6.9% since 1 July 2020. Bulk electricity prices are also set to increase by around 15% next year after a court victory for Eskom in its battle with National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa). We engage the Polokwane executive mayor who will be taking us through on what this means for Polokwane residents.
