People of Note - Mike Allsopp

Honeybees travel the equivalent of twice around the world to produce that half kilogram jar of honey we pluck off the supermarket shelf. One in every three mouthfuls of food we eat is pollinated by honeybees. But humanity's greatest friend among the insects seems to be in trouble. Dwindling forage, new generation pesticides and a host of other problems are taking a toll on these busiest of creatures. South Africa's only full-time honeybee scientist, Mike Allsopp will be this week's guest on 'People of Note' with Chris Nicklin.
