Coral Reefs are among the most biodiverse, but also the most threatened ecosystems on planet Earth. Marine parks are part of the solution, but effective management is a huge challenge worldwide. Therefore, the private sector, in particular the tourism industry, is increasingly seen as an important partner for sustainable management and financing of marine parks.Chumbe Island Coral Park Ltd (CHICOP) in Zanzibar/Tanzania was founded in 1993 as the first private marine park in the world, and is considered a pioneer for sustainably financed marine conservation.
