The case against Dali Mpofu SC, with Karyn Maughan

The Legal Practice Council, a national body meant to hold the legal profession to account, is launching a full-scale disciplinary inquiry into the conduct of Dali Mpofu. Among the slew of misconduct charges the advocate faces relate to comments he made while handling legal matters, including the parliamentary inquiry into former Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane’s fitness to hold office. "You've got charges that relate to a former Public Protector, a former SARS official, and five senior judges who were all in different ways fundamentally disrespected by Mpofu," says News24 specialist legal journalist Karyn Maughan. "I think that it's very important that there's accountability for that and that he answers to it," she says. The hearings start on 30 April in Pretoria. Later in the show, The Lead host, Graeme Raubenheimer, gives us an update on the latest developments in the Trump administration's tariff fight with SA. And finally, a crucial Springbok returns home with a neck injury ahead of the Winter tests. Mail your comments and voicenotes to: thelead@24.com.
