Death toll in Stilfontein mine climbs to 78

Police say they are facing a challenge in identifying bodies of alleged illegal miners extracted from an abandoned shaft in Stillfontein. So far only two have been rightfully identified by their family members. A mine rescue service operation continues to extract bodies illegal miners at shaft 11. Police have confirmed that most of the deceased are foreign nationals.
