Springbok Icon: The Making of the Legendary Frans Steyn

Loading player...
Frans Steyn made his Springbok Test debut at the age of just 19. Within a year he had established a reputation as an accurate long distance kicker and owing to an injury, he was thrust into the starting XV and played his role in helping the Springboks win the 2007 Rugby World Cup. Steyn’s dazzling skills further contributed to South Africa wining the 2009 series against the British and Irish Lions and then followed that up by winning the Tri-Nations, including three consecutive wins over the All Blacks. Sadly a contractual dispute saw Frans exit the international stage under Heyneke Meyer. He did return briefly under Allister Coetzee before Rassie Erasmus brought him back in 2019. By now Steyn was a senior player and he embraced this role passionately as he helped the Boks to glory at the Rugby World Cup in Japan. In this exclusive interview he shares his remarkable story with us in typically candid fashion. Buckle up for a rollercoaster ride!
