Episode 36 Ashraf Garda #WisdomPersonified, conversations with Dudu Msomi

here is something so distinct and remarkable about a man who sights as one of his most courageous decisions in life, cold calling his now wife to introduce himself and express his interest in her after he saw her at a function many moons ago. I knew this was going to be another fascinating conversation. Ashraf Garda is the founder of Champion South Africa. He sees his purpose as to Champion people. His goal is to build a champion nation. How we achieve that, he says it is up to everyone.
Ashraf is ardent about us fighting against ‘othering’ each other. The danger of doing so to the fragile fabric of our democracy is consequential to a man who has spent most of his career as a practising Muslim in ‘non-Muslim’ spaces. South Africa is 3% Muslim. For an individual who is enthusiastic about his country and says, in the main, he finds South Africans very tolerant of religious difference.
I was sad to hear his story of how he left his illustrious career at SAFM which is SABC’s English language public radio station. You would expect a public broadcaster to champion our constitutional values of human dignity, equality and non-racialism and be the bastion of diversity and
tolerance.
Watch this conversation to hear how SAFM played hardball by being unyielding in finding an equitable solution knowing that Ashraf is a practising Muslim and attending mosque on Fridays 12:45 is sacrosanct.
There is dignity in a person who does not sacrifice his beliefs and integrity for money and prominence at any cost. Embark on this wisdom journey with Ashraf Garda and be inspired by his passion for South Africa. The Champion Nation in the making.
