Gertrude was a rainbow trialist who was held in solitary confinement for over 100 days, for her resistance work in the 70's and 80's. She went on to serve a term in Parliament under Nelson Mandela, and was appointed as the Commissioner for Gender Equality in South Africa. She has just released her memoirs at the age of 70, stating plainly and powerfully that her faith in God was the one thing that led her through the hardest years.
