Lack of boat patrols on Okavango River

Loading player...
The lack of sufficient boat patrols by the relevant environment and fisheries authorities along the Okavango River has become worrisome to lodge owners in that area due to the fact that the number of illegal fishermen continue to increase, both from Namibia and Angola, as well as Zambia. Lodge owners on the Okavango River near Rundu removed more than 1.2 kilometres of illegal fishing nets from the river between May and June. Three lodges participated in the patrols. Shamvura Camp owner Mark Paxton say they are struggling with the increasingly dangerous fishermen, it is expensive and it is becoming dangerous and the authorities cannot properly assist.
