In this final wrap-up episode of The Doc and The Guru Podcast we reflect back on 2021 and some of the key events that have shaped the marketing and advertising narrative in our basket of 55 podcasts this year. So with apologies to Charles Dickens
“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the pandemic of foolishness, it was the epoch of masked belief, it was the epoch of anti-vax incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of lockdown darkness, it was the winter of hope, it was the summer of despair.”
In many respects is has been a year packed with highlights. The release of the new BRC_RAMS data was a crucial milestone. The release of the MRF_MAPS database provided much food for thought. The Marketing Achievement Awards afforded us access to some of the South Africa’s top marketing minds. The young voices in the media and marketing industry generated some of our most inspirational and popular podcast moments. Balancing the youthful passion with some of the traditional marketing and media craft skills will be a key imperative for The Doc and The Guru Podcast in 2022. For many people, there have been few highlights in 2021 and to the many people in the marketing and advertising industry who have suffered loss this past year, we extend our deepest condolences.
Sometimes when we can’t make sense of something in hindsight it’s best to reflect on what it might mean for the future. 2021 has been one of those occasions and, for those of us who are fortunate enough to find ourselves amongst the ranks of the remnant, we should perhaps view the 2021 through the lens of Des and Dawn Lindberg. - Every day is an opening night! Every new year is another opportunity to up your game.
Thank you for the time you’ve given us in 2021. Thank you for the many suggestions we received. Enjoy the break and we look forward to chatting with you in January. Lots to do in ’22!
