Attorney and founder of the Legal Affair, Nonhlanhla Mtshali, weighs in on the legality around this question on the OFM Business Hour. Mtshali’s expert opinion comes after the country’s labour court, deemed it ok for an employer to oust an employee for not strictly adhering to Covid-19 protocols. According to Businesstech, the employee was an assistant butchery manager and member of the butchery’s in house Coronavirus Site Committee at the time of the office and ultimate ousting. The employee was a Covid-19 contact and continued going to work despite exhibiting symptoms and knowing that he was indeed a contact of a Covid-19 positive fellow colleague, who at that point was hospitalised. He was chastised for endangering the lives of his colleagues and eventually fired.
