On Tuesday 22 June, Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) hosted a webinar, titled: Africa Unite Against COVID-19, as part of its efforts to raise awareness on COVID-19.

The webinar, which was chaired by Dr Thobile Poswa, Head of Department of the Environmental Health Department, arose after the Department of Marketing and Communications began analysing how Africa was being side-lined in vaccine distribution but at the same time being resilient to COVID-19.

The Department of Environmental Health became a natural partner because part of its research deals with alternative medicine, which could provide explanation for some of the resilience of Africa.

Professor Kakkau Koffi, Senior Research fellow at the Centre for Africa-China Studies at the University of Johannesburg lead discussions during the webinar and provided some insights into how African countries are dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, how values intrinsic to Africa could have contributed to this resilience and how African unity could become an important strategy in the fight against COVID-19.
