Agri-SA has reacted to finance minister Tito Mboweni's national budget saying the 8% increase in excise duty on alcoholic beverages and tobacco will jeopardise the sustainability of the sector.
The industry, which pays about R2.5 bn in excise duty every month, has been pleading to government to halt the increases.
